Date: December 31st 2009
Dear Neighbors and Friends,
Sometimes getting all of your tools in place and in working order takes more time than getting the job done. That's how it's seemed so far for the Center for Local Self-Reliance…but thanks to our hard work the NEW YEAR will bring big changes to the Caretakers House & Gardens!
Thank you for being a part of these 2009 milestones:
- The Bellingham City Council and Parks Department have formally approved the community-designed site plan we put together this year (link to sketches).
- Thanks to a Small and Simple Grant from the City of Bellingham, we have purchased deer-proofing fence material, and some soil amendments for the garden.
Our successful fundraising efforts will enable us to get started with these projects:
- The house renovation is now underway and we're repairing windows, getting the utilities back on, and discovering the inherent beauty of this 90 year old house.
- Efforts to make soil improvements to the surrounding grounds will begin soon! We still need to locate all of those interesting subterranean utilities that have serviced these grounds for all these years.
There will be lots of opportunities to help us in 2010 to bring the Caretakers House & Gardens back to life. You could…
- Serve on one of our committees: House, Gardens, Fundraising or Programming,
- Be available for work parties at the house or gardens when the need arises,
- Or, make a financial donation to keep us supplied with materials!
CLSR was recently granted federal tax exempt status as a 501(C)(3) corporation, so ALL donations can now be made directly to CLSR at PO Box 4200, 98227!
